They are 17 days old today. Yes, they can see and hear, and they are crawling around (it is pretty wobbly), and there is even a hint of playing and ear chewing! We are very pleased with the progress of all of the puppies. The puppies are now starting to be placed outside of their whelping box so they can start to explore the world a bit. The tile floor is kind of scary, but it is warm, so they might forget and go to sleep anyway. I think by this time next week, they will be c
This picture was taken on August 27 (12 days before delivery) of Harriet (l) and her mom Penelope (r) going after a toy in the pool. I just thought that is is a great picture, and it shows how athletic Harriet is even so pregnant, she is not jumping very far and the height of the jump is a little low, but she always wants to play and compete!
The puppies are looking wonderful. Weights are great, they are starting to hear, and their eyes should be opening in the next day or two. Sometimes it looks as if one of them is peeking at me, but not quite yet. When they sleep, there are usually one or two that move around trying to either get comfortable or to cool off. As you can see one of them has decided to move away from the pack temporarily! This is from yesterday, so they are 10 days old here!
This was so cute I had to post this. She can hear now and her eyes are close to opening! The puppies are really starting to enjoy being rubbed and handled, they will quiet down when they are picked up and held now (unless they are very hungry). This was taken last evening.
As of last night, seven of the 10 have doubled their birth weight, and the other three are a few percentage points from that milestone. This is excellent progress! If you are wondering, all of them are very close to or over 2 lbs. In most litters, there is almost always a couple that trails behind in weight or needs extra help staying on track, this group has done exceptionally well thus far. The puppies are starting to crawl with more purpose, their voices are getting strong
This is currently Harriet's favorite meal: 2 Cups Royal Canin Puppy dry food .5 Cup shredded mozzarella cheese 1.5 Cup Freshpet Vital Balanced Nutrition 2 tbs. Yoplait vanilla yogurt LOTS of fresh water! She will eat this amount 3+ times per day (not necessarily the same ingredients each meal) until she stops nursing the puppies. Feeding all of those babies is burning a tremendous amount of energy (three to four times her normal). She will lose a small amount of weight befor
Here are a few pictures from this morning: Pups in their basket while bedding is changed, they like the warmth and comfort of each other, and they usually get quiet and still very quickly. Time for a mid-morning snack!
Here is a short video of Harriet and her puppies approximately 24 hours after delivery. She keeps her whelping box and the puppies very clean. The bedding is changed every 6 - 8 hours (or more if needed). The whelping box is made of a very hard plastic, and it is very easy to clean and is reusable. Later on when the puppies get older, the box is expandable with an additional module that is generally used as an elimination area. I will show this when it happens. The base layer
You brushed my eyes with angels wings, full of love The kind that makes devils cry... I just love this little guy. Something about him makes me feel very happy and warm (not that the other don't as well), but in each litter there is always at least one to whom I become attached. I am sorry if my previous post implied something happened, I can assure you everyone is great! I did not come up with the words, they are from a George Michael song that I appreciate, "You Have Been L
I am sorry for the delay, for the individual pictures, but it has been quite hectic here as you may imagine. Here are the answers to some questions: 1. Harriet is doing exceptionally well. 2. Weight gains are progressing almost uniformly. 3. Umbilical cords are a distant memory! 4. My post about the "Little Angel" - I am sorry if anyone though we had lost a puppy, we did not. Sometimes I feel very attached to a puppy and he made me feel that way, so I expressed it accordingly
